MOFFITT TO MAKE FIRST ARCA START OF 2018 AT NASHVILLE: ALL ACCESS PASS
Richard Petty Motorsports development driver Thad Moffitt will provide General Tire with behind-the-scenes access this week as he prepares to make his first ARCA Racing Series start of the 2018 season Saturday night at Fairgrounds Speedway in Nashville, Tenn.
At 17, Moffitt, the grandson of "The King" Richard Petty, is only eligible to compete in select ARCA races in 2018 due to minimum age eligibility requirements that restrict drivers under the age of 18 from competing at all 18 racetracks on the circuit.
“As a team, we really learned a lot,” said Moffitt after he and his Empire Racing team tested last Friday at the five-eighths mile racetrack. “We need to find a little more speed for this weekend, but we have a really solid car. This track is fast and tire wear is important. I love racing on the General Tire racing tires we have. We just need to be smart, save our tires, and be there at the end.”
The Trinity, N.C. native began racing go-karts and quarter midgets before moving to Southeast Limited Late Models, where he won the 2016 championship. He then advanced to Late Model competition and will continue to make select starts throughout the season in addition to his ARCA Racing Series schedule.
The fourth-generation driver made his ARCA Racing Series debut last year at Nashville, finishing 16th in the 32-car field. Moffitt made two other ARCA starts in 2017, finishing a career-best 11th at Lucas Oil Raceway in Brownsburg, Ind.
