It was the last weekend of Lucas Oil Off Road Racing for the season, and everyone on track was looking to make a great finish for the year. Saturday’s Round 17 would be the last of normal races for Pro 4 and Pro 2 (Sunday’s race would be a Challenge Cup), and the relentless Carl Renezeder was looking for the win. Starting in the third row for Pro 4, he fought his way around the track and was running in 3rd position when the engine gave up the ghost. A valve had dropped and a broken a valve spring, taking the #17 Pro 4 truck out of the race.
Later, Carl would switch into his Pro 2 truck and would again deal with mechanical failure. After working himself into the second position behind the leader, Renezeder’s brakes failed in his Pro 2 truck while coming into the step-up jump! Using his whits and a little luck, Carl kept the truck on the track and still managed to hold onto a 3rd place finish with bad brakes! That’s why they call him Relentless.
